World Cup Desserts 2026

2026 World Cup in the US -  I continued our tradition of making a dessert from each US competitor starting with
Kamby Arro for US vs. Paraguay
That was some yummy rice pudding.
Lambington for US vs. Australia.
We have made this before but still love it.
Blake got her gear ready for the upcoming game.
We were in Missouri but Emily insisted that we not break tradition.  So she made baklava (with a bit of help) - which turned out absolutely delicious and was a big hit with the adults.  I also served two pans of fruit pizza for the USA which were devoured.
Sampita or Meringue Cake for US vs. Bosnia Herzegovina
Emily wanted to make this one; she really loves her meringue.
Unfortunately, the recipe was flawed and we had two attempts at sugar syrup burn before we looked up a different recipe and verified that water was required in order for the sugar to dissolve before it burned.  Lily had fun playing with the two bowls full of burned sugar.  (Getting the burned sugar syrup out of the bowls proved to be quite difficult, requiring hours and hours of soaking in boiling water).
The end result looked beautiful but all of us thought it was pretty meh.  No one had a second piece and other than Emily scoping the meringue off to eat, no one touched it after day one.
I had to make liege waffles on Thursday, several days before the US vs. Belgium game but they were nice to eat on the road as we headed to Seattle for the game on Monday.
