This fall Perdita seriously turned on her hunting skills. Nearly everyday she would bring something in to show us, usually dead but not always. If I could stand it I would leave the removal for Andrew when he got home but most of the time I was dumping the carcass. Then one day Lily decided she would take on the job. She had to wear gloves and get a little help from Mack, but she did it. Unfortunately, she only repeated the removal one other time so the job is mine again.
Our home teacher invited the kids out to ride his horses one night. Emily, Natali, Andrew and Lily loved it. Mack happily went to soccer practice, and Kate wasn't too upset to stay home with pink eye. Those two want nothing to do with riding on a horse.
Fall wouldn't be complete without a trip to Yellowstone. The girls and I enjoyed a gift shop and the silly ranger photos while the big kids and Greg went further down the trail on our hike. Greg took a ton of animal pics but this is all I've got to show for it. We saw a few bears, lots of other animals, and spent a lot of time in the car. Everyone had a great time.
This is Lily's preschool class at the fire station.
Emily's first soccer team. She loved it!
One day after ballet Brooke and Libby came over to play and the girls had a great picnic outside. I love beautiful fall days.
In September Mack hurt the ball of his foot playing soccer. He toughed it out til the end of the season then we finally gave up on it getting better on it's own and took him to the Doc the day before Thanksgiving. He wore the boot for four weeks, got an MRI, took some heavy steroids, and finally got his toe feeling good again. They don't know exactly what was wrong but think he broke his sesamoid bone. Less than two weeks after getting the boot off he landed a ski jump heavy on the heel of that same foot and was limping again. Luckily, we had a follow up appointment for his toe the next week. He limped around that week and managed to try out for the basketball team (he still did well enough to make the B team). At the Doc they took an x-ray and discovered that he had landed right where the growth plate meets the heel bone. It had been moved just slightly - that is considered a fracture. So he was back in the boot. The Doc said 2-5 weeks. Mack was determined to play basketball and told me he was taking it off when the two weeks were up, Doc's orders or no. Thankfully, the Doctor approved and he got the boot off for good. He was a bit out of shape after nearly two months without exercise but he is thrilled to be done with the whole ordeal.
Chocolate Frosted Donut residue?
Kate and Emmy were angels together in the Nutcracker. Their costumes and dance were so beautiful.
