Beating the Heat in Mesquite

From Big Rock we said goodbye to Greg and headed to Cedar City to spend the night with the Yorgasons.  I got to chat with the big girls the whole way to their house and get the scoop on the teen party over the weekend.
Cecily was a champ and taught Emily and Lily how to use her aerial silks, she also showed off her skills.  Wow!  That girl is amazing.  My girls felt so strong when they were able to do anything.

We got some much needed exercise doing Just Dance, then Dahlia and I talked about her love of cats while the big girls dyed their hair pink.  Sadly, I got no pics of the process but keep your eyes open for those pink heads.
The next morning the girls and I got to Grandma's house just in time to go to Peggy Sues with Brad and Neelie's girls to remember Papa in his booth on the 1 year anniversary of his passing.

After lunch Kate and I took naps while Nani, Emily, and Lily went swimming.  We ended the night with $5 Tuesday at the movies watching Inside Out 2, a quick trip to Smiths in preparation for the bday party the next day, and a stop at the cemetery to shed a few tears and remember our amazing Papa.

The next morning was busy with baking and organizing to be ready for the birthday girl.  Emily put in a lot of hours making Goof Balls and Fruit Pizza.

We also had fruits and veggies, a charcuterie board with meat and cheese, crackers, grilled cheese, cucumber sandwiches, pretzel bites and chips with nacho cheese for dipping, and frozen grapes.  What a feast.
Then presents, swimming, and filling water balloons for the big Bunkerville water fight.
I managed to avoid getting pelted but got splashed enough to survive the heat.  Clean up was followed by burgers and hot dogs and a chance to chat with my missionary so he could wish me a happy birthday.  It was a lovely day hanging with family.

The next morning I woke at 5:15 so Emmy and I could catch the Bunkerville 4th of July 5k. It started at 6 to lessen the intensity of the heat.  Emily ran with Brad and Neelie and finished 4th in her age group and managed to beat both Brad and Neelie.
Somehow I finished 2nd for my age group walking the entire way😂.  Neelie finished 1st beating me by 10 minutes.  It was nice to get some walking in, even if it was hot and I had to borrow Neelie's tennis shoes.
The girls followed that with an eventful Razor ride with Brad where they got stuck and I had to come rescue them.  Good thing I was already hot and sweaty.  The girls were so hot by then we all took a break then I got ready for the evening events while they played at the water park and got Italian Ices with Grandma - they are converted - Italian Ices are way better than snow cones.

We loaded up and met Brads family at Gunlock Reservoir where we pulled out Nani's inflatable kayaks, rented a paddle board and a floating mat.

The mat was so much fun and in the end the girls mostly just laid out on the mat working on their tans.

We had rented for two hours but only lasted 90 minutes before we were too hot and ready to get out of the sun.  So we said good by to the Easton's and headed into Saint George to change into real clothes and get some dinner at Culver's.  We still had time to kill so we walked around Jacob Hamblin's house in Santa Clara and drove through Snow Canyon State Park before arriving at Tuacahn for the evening show of Anastasia.
The show was amazing, the stage, props, costumes, singing and ballet dancing.  We loved the show but hated the fact that we were so hot during the entire thing.  It hadn't cooled off much even after the sun went down.
The firework show at the end was a nice perk and ended our 4th in style.

We got into bed in Mesquite after 12 and I woke the girls at 7:30 the next morning so we could hit the road by 8 and get home by 8:30pm including a stop in Sandy to visit Ric Petersen at the hospital.  It had been a wonderful week but we were all happy to get home to our own beds and the kitties.
